Meet Some of Our Pilots
Dick Pickens, CFII, MEI, ATP, A/I Chief Pilot
Dick Pickens took his first flight in a J-3 Cub in 1956. Since then, Dick has become an icon amongst his peers in the aviation community. With his quick witted humor and his laid back personality, it is easy to see why Dick has friends everywhere he goes. Unless you have the pleasure to fly with Dick, one may never appreciate the experience that this man possesses. He doesn’t just fly the plane, he wears it! After recently learning the depth of his flying experience, it's no wonder he’s so darn good!! Dick has logged over 16000 flying hours, with over 7000 hours of Multi-engine flight time. He spent the majority of his career at Atlanta base Lockheed-Martin Corp. This is where Dick flew countless hours in a C-130 flying in and out of unimproved strips in Africa. Dick also spent several years with Boeing Aircraft as a Boeing 727 flight crew instructor. Believe me, this man knows his way around a cockpit.
Curt Farley, Commercial, MEL, ATP Ferry Pilot
Rumor has it, Curt Farley actually soloed the Wright Brothers in 1903! All kidding aside, this man poses a remarkable resume. His incredible amount of experience is an invaluable asset to both FlyHire Aviation, LLC and the clientele that we provide service.
In 1998, Curt retired from American Airlines after 32 years of service. Prior to becoming an airline Captain, Curt wrestled the controls of USAF Fighters over the territory of Thailand, Cambodia and North Vietnam. He honorably received 5 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal, and the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service. Curt now tours the country as the owner/operator of Venom/Mig 17 Jet Acro, Inc. and he is also an Internationally rated Captain of a CJ2.
Captain Curt is single pilot qualified in the Citation Jet. He also possesses type rating in the Citation CE-500, Citation CE-750, Boeing 727, Airbus A300/310, and the Saberliner 80. With over 36000 hours of flight time, I think most will agree that he is the man for the job.
Wes Dixon, Commercial, MEL, Instrument, CFI, CFII, MEI Ferry Pilot/ Flight Coordinator/ Founder
Wes Dixon first pursued his lifelong dream of becoming a pilot when he enrolled in his local flight school in 1996. After only 10 hours of total flight time, Wes took to the sky for his first student solo. Since then, Wes has molded his aviation career to become a benchmark for his devotion to safety, efficiency, and superb professionalism. Wes is known for his collective composure. When asked, “What makes you unique as a ferry pilot”? Wes’ relaxed response: “Sometimes, we just never know what to expect. As a ferry pilot, I must always prepare for the unexpected”. He smiles and adds, “It’s not a matter of if, but more of a matter of WHEN we (ferry pilots) find ourselves in a uniquely demanding situation”. “It’s during those times that a ferry pilot must be prepared to handle ANY situation with resilience, and exceptional critical thinking.”
Nathan Simons, CFI, CFII, MEI, Gold Seal Instructor Ferry Pilot
Most pilots have heard of "the aviation bug." I got bit by the aviation bug when I was 8 years old, and I still grow more excited about flying every year. I earned my Private Pilot certificate in 1996. The remainder of my flight training was completed over several years while Iworked as a manager in the restaurant, retail, and aviation industries.
